To find out which cities are the best places to run a startup, StartupBlink has analyzed startup ecosystems in 1,000 cities and 100 countries to publish its annual Global Startup Ecosystem Rankings Report 2020.

In the report, Europe continues to fare well, with 20 countries (including Russia and the UK) in the top 30 countries club. Other than that, there is a strong presence of CEE (Central and Eastern European) countries, affecting 6 out of the top 25 countries.

Saying goes that it‘s better if something happens later than never. It could be said that Kaunas is exactly the case to this point.

Ostensibly, Kaunas had all the necessary ingredients for successful development of Startup ecosystem – top-level universities, tech-driven companies with an interest in R&D activities, access to financial instruments right around the corner. For a long period of time, the city was forgotten in the eyes of incoming startups or ecosystem players, however, things started to change when various ecosystem players started joining their forces to position the city as a place with all stages of ecosystem needed for successful idea realization covered.

Kyiv: Europe’s new tech destination

StartupBlink has launched the Startup Ecosystem Ranking Report 2019 that now ranks 1,000 cities and 100 countries worldwide and is available for download here.

Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine and Ukraine’s startup capital. Around 60% of the tech ecosystem of Ukraine is based at Kyiv.

It’s a home for more than 500 startups and more than 150 coworking spaces, incubators, accelerators, tech universities, and communities. Ukraine has 185 000 tech specialists with outstanding skills in AI and math – and around 50% of them are based at Kyiv (17% in Kharkiv, 13% in Lviv). Kyiv is one of the most dynamic startup ecosystems in Eastern Europe and a great spot for developing new businesses and creative ideas.
