ThermalCore, Inc of San Jose, California, is moving forward with an investigational treatment for ovarian cancer, utilizing Whole-Body Hyperthermia. It has long been recognized that cancer cells are susceptible to temperatures above the body's fever range. We have completed pre-clinical studies, and now have received approval from the FDA to proceed with a clinical trial to test a device to raise the body temperature. A safety, or Phase I clinical trial is pending local regulatory clearance.
Regional hyperthermia, which is not intended to heat the whole body, has been used to treat cancer for years. Heating the whole body has not been considered safe in the past. We intend to prove that our technique can be safely and reproducibly be applied to treat people with cancer.
