My online newspaper reaches hundreds of thousands of people. I write real-time news but in a classic journalistic style. I do not hide from the truth, even if it means being unpopular on news reporting. My Ethics column is amazing. I also believe I have solved the puzzle of how to save local news - and be profitable. Scoops are vital but built upon the solid foundation of a reporter who is 2 parts watchdog and 1 part fearless non-biased writer.
My readers live here, or anywhere via the internet, and need to know what is going on in their own back yard.
With bloggers and advertisers paying for content, it is vital than ever to know how to write news - accurate, non-biased journalism. Without authentic news, our entire democratic system is in jeopardy. Since I follow local newspapers, I can tell you this: they are not doing a good job. I want to replicate my model, teaching writers how to do online news well. Legit local news reporting is critical to our Democracy - and it is dying.
