Packback offers pay-per-use access to eTextbooks for $5 or less.
To date, the market share of ebooks in the non-educational consumer book market has grown to a staggering 22.5%. Unfortunately...eTextbooks as a percentage of the total educational textbook market has remained at a mere 3%.
We offer students a classroom parallel to familiar sources such as iTunes and Redbox and created a rent-to-own (pay-per use/microtransaction) model for eTextbooks.
Packback aligns money spent on textbooks with usage patterns of students by allowing $5 digital rentals. Additionally, if the student needs the book for the entire semester, all money spent on the eTextbook to date goes directly towards the extended rental of that same eTextbook. It's a win-win for both students and publishers:
Students pay per use and can choose to own the book whenever they wish.
Publishers regain revenue lost to the “used book market”.
Why buy a used book when you can rent a fully polished eTextbook for $5?
