City Building Tools is developing a toolkit of applications, each targeted to help professional planners, their constituents, and consultants measure and change one particular design problem with streets, transit networks, and public spaces:
* Transit Service Allocation Game, a web app the Houston transit agency has purchased to collect input on where riders want bus routes
* CBT Questions, a web app that 5 university labs currently subscribe to and use to run spatial studies
* CBT Access, a web and mobile app that helps users count pedestrians, cyclists, and parked cars and experiment on screen with design changes that increase the accessibility of places for all people (while decreasing car traffic)
The tools integrate with each other and connect with existing systems used by planners and designers (like Esri ArcGIS). They're sold as subscription software to consulting firms, university labs, and community outreach groups seeking to expand their offerings and lower their expenses.
